Retreat at Cap du Voltigeur is a well-published retreat on a remote Kangaroo Island site overlooking the ever-changing waters of Investigator Strait. The architecture which opens to the site prospects and landforms is based on a sea-eagle dreaming. Rammed earth from soil from the site ‘anchors’ building elements to the south and offers thermal balance to the north-facing glass. A fractured plan form creates outdoor spaces to provide shelter to outdoor dining spots irrespective of wind direction on this exposed site.
